Horsham District Health Walks December


All welcome to guided, free, sociable, HDC walks led by trained volunteers; no need to book, just turn-up at the start point. A walks booklet is available from the Walks Co-ordinator on 07720 714306 or online at www.horsham.gov.uk/leisurepages/Leisure/sports/walking

Beginners are recommended to contact the Walk Leader to discuss suitability. All walks can be wet and muddy in places. Forthcoming walks in the Shermanbury Parish and neighbouring areas are as follows:

 Tue 4 & 18 December 11:00am   Health Centre, Steyning 2 miles 75 mins

Walk 1502. Meet at Steyning Health Centre, Tanyard Lane, BN44 3RJ (TQ176113).  Various routes, some inclines, one stile, takes in parts of Steyning and the outskirts. Can be muddy across fields, please wear sensible footwear. Toilets available in the Health Centre. Ann 01903 297553 / Jacky 01903 815543

 Wed 5 & 19 December 10:00am Henfield Byways 2-3 miles 1 hr

Walk 1033. Meet Henfield Library, High Street, Henfield, BN5 9HN. Lovely walk around the twittens, ginnells and snickets of Henfield. May be extended if walkers wish to walk further. No dogs. Anne 01273 493671

Fri 7 & 21 December 11:00am Southwater (1) 2.6 miles 75 mins

Walk 1009. Meet in car park of the Country Park, (off Cripplegate Lane, RH13 9UN). Along bridleways and country lanes and return via the Downs Link. No stiles, but can be muddy. Not suitable for wheelchairs or prams. The café and toilets at the Park will be open. Sorry no dogs.           Alex 01403 273751

Thu 13 December 10:00am Southwater Footpaths and Lanes (1) 5.5 miles 2.5 hrs

Walk 2217. Park in the car park of the Country Park, (off Cripplegate Lane, RH13 9UN, TQ161259). Mainly flat, circular walk along quiet footpaths, tracks and lanes. Two stiles. Good views to the South Downs. We are likely to encounter cattle. The cafe at the Park will be open for coffee and/or lunch. No dogs. No parking charges. Lynne 01403 268157

Sat 15 December 10:30am West Grinstead Mince Pie Walk 3 or 5 miles 2.5 hrs

Walk 2209. Meet West Sussex County Council car park adjacent to the Downs Link RH13 8LY (TQ183225), on the A272 between the A24 and A281, immediately opposite Park Lane, near ‘The Orchard’ restaurant. A circular walk with option to do 3 or 5 miles along the Downs Link, through meadows towards Partridge Green and St Hugh’s Charterhouse Monastery at Shermanbury, returning to the railway carriage information centre staffed by volunteers offering reasonably priced refreshments. The leaders will offer Mince pies, Tea/Coffee for £1 to cover cost and donate profit to the railway carriage. Possibility of Livestock and mud. Some stiles.
